1. On the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in Bay of Bengal, Indian Navy has commissioned a new airbase –INS Kohassa. Establishing the new airbase is aimed at expanding its footprint in the India Ocean Region (IOR). Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba inaugurated the new airbase INS Kohassa.

2. Tamil Nadu’s government launched the state’s defense industrial corridor on January 20, 2019. At the launch of the defense innovation hub in Coimbatore, defense products were unveiled.

3. India is all set to buy USD 5 billion worth of oil and gas from the US. In fact, India will also buy USD 18 billion of defense machinery. According to a report by Mr. Harsh Vardhan, India’s U.S. Ambassador, exports from the U.S. to India have increased by about 30 percent in latest years.

4. In Lower Dibang Valley District, Arunachal Pradesh, Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Diffo Bridge over Chipu River. The bridge’s length is 426 mts.

5. On January 23, 2019, the Indian and Japan Coast Guards jointly conducted a disaster control, search and rescue exercise off the Yokohama coast in Japan.

6. The final scheduling conference to work out the modalities for Indian Africa Field Training (IAFTX) -2019 took place in Pune, Maharashtra, on January 23 and 24, 2019.

7. Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), confirmed the allocation of Rs 10,900 crore by the Union Government. The sum will be approved in the next four years for the creation of a total of 40 satellite launch vehicles (SLV).

8. The second edition of the 2018-19 Indian-Myanmar Joint Army (IMBEX) exercise took place at Chandimandir Military Station in Haryana’s Panchkula District. Chandimandir Military Station is the Western Command Headquarters.

9. Mr. Subhas Bhamre, Minister of State for Defense of the Union, announced that after Coimbatore (in Tamil Nadu), Nashik, situated in Maharashtra, will be the second center for defense development in India.
